Certificate Export Instructions

For connecting to eMC2 directly with a certificate, it is necessary to have a DOD CAC or ECA certificate already configured on your system. Then, export your certificate from your computer and send to the eMC2 team so it can be imported into your account. Here are the instructions to export your certificate in Internet Explorer.

If you have already gone through this process and have observed an issue with your CAC cert repeatedly prompting for a pin, please review this: Resolving CAC Cert Issues

  1. If you are using a DoD CAC, insert it into your card reader and you must have already gone through the process of making the certs avialable in Windows. If you are using IdenTrust ECA, please ensure to have it already imported into your windows system.
  2. Launch Internet Explorer
  3. Go to: Tools > Internet Options > Content > Certificates
  4. On the Personal tab, select either your (a) DOD CA-XX or (b) IdenTrust ECA with your name and valid expiration date. Also ensure that the one that is selected displays "All" below in the Certificate intended purposes area. Important – do not send the DOD Email CA

    Then click the Next button
  9. Click the Finish button and you will see a pop-up telling you that the export was successful.

  10. Due to the .cer extension name, it is necessary to have proper view settings on your computer in order to see the file in the following steps. To verify the setting, open the Control Panel from your Start Menu. And click Folder Options
Note: If Folder Options is not available, change View by Large icons at the top right of the Control Panel.
  11. Select the View tab in the Folder Options window. Then Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types."
  12. Click OK to save the changes.
  13. Navigate to the file that was saved in the previous step and rename the file. Change the .CER to .TXT
    * This is necessary because some email systems deem this as a malicious file and will block it.
    • Right-click on the file that was saved in the previous step
    • Select Rename
    • Change file name from examplename.CER to examplename.TXT where 'examplename' represents the filename you used when exporting the certificate
  14. Email the file to webmaster@linquest.com for processing.
  15. After you have been notified by webmaster that your account is ready for certificate access, you can visit the eMC2 site by clicking the "Primary CAC or Cert Login" link found on the public eMC2 Landing Page
